Billy Beane was once a potential superstar baseball, which is the point that industry expectations, the management turned his competitive nature. Going to the 2002 season, looking sad situation Billy: its small market in Oakland has lost its star players (again), big market clubs (and their huge salaries) and rebuild the team and compete with one third of the wage bill . Driven to win, Billy takes the system challenging the fundamental tenants of the game. He looks from the outside of baseball, so he rejected the theories of Bill James and salary Peter Brand, a smart, digital, an economist educated at Yale. Together, they take the conventional wisdom with the intention to review everything, and armed with a computer to perform a statistical analysis of the factory on baseball ignored.

Difficult to reach conclusions imagination and go after players abandoned and rejected by the rest of baseball for being too strange, too old, injured or too many problems, but have all the key skills that are universally under-evaluated. As Billy and Pierre is the future of their new recording methods and the Misfits to irritate the old guard, the media, fans, and its own area manager, who refused to cooperate. Ultimately, this experience will not only change in the way of playing the game, but an outcome that would leave Billy with a new understanding that transcends the game and the book to a new location.
